The Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences is one of 11 major academic divisions, or colleges, of Purdue University. Established in 2010, the College of Health and Human Sciences is the newest college to be established at Purdue University, and the college currently offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees for all 10 of its academic units.
Academic Units[edit]
The College of Health and Human Sciences consists of 10 academic units:
- Human Development and Family Studies
- Health and Kinesiology
- Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
- Public Health Graduate Program
Location[edit]
Similar to other colleges at Purdue University, education courses meet in several buildings throughout Purdue's West Lafayette campus. However, the College's offices are distributed across several buildings on the West Lafayette campus[3], such as Hampton Hall of Civil Engineering housing the advising offices of the Health Sciences unit[4], and Stone Hall containing the business office of the college[5].
History[edit]
In 2009, a faculty-led task force, which included heads of several academic units, was established in order to explore the opportunities of a possible college realignment. Shortly afterwards in the same year, the task force had proposed the realignment of their respective academic units, in order to create a new academic division, the College of Health and Human Sciences. Citing benefits such as addressing global challenges, promoting discovery with delivery and enhancing student access and success, the Board of Trustees approved the proposal the following February, with the College of Health and Human Sciences officially launching July of the same year. The newly formed college contained nine academic units from the College of Liberal Arts, the former College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences, and the College of Consumer and Family Sciences. A tenth, individual unit, the Public Health Graduate Program, was launched in 2014. [6]
In 2014, Purdue University dedicated Lyles-Porter Hall, housing training and research programs for the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. Alongside with the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, the building also houses Indiana University School of Medicine - West Lafayette, as well as the rest of the clinical space being occupied by part of the School of Nursing, and parts of the departments of Nutrition Science, Psychological Sciences and Health and Kinesiology.[7]
In 2016, Purdue dedicated a new MRI facility to house two new MRI machines alongside their already present small animal MRI facility, the Life Science MRI Facility containing a Siemens MAGNETOM Primsa 3T MRI machine and the Engineering MRI Facility containing a GE Discovery MR750 3T MRI. The Life Science MRI Facility, supported by the College, is used to help advance basic and applied life science research on the Purdue campus.[8]
Rankings[edit]
Several of the College of Health and Human Science's graduate programs are highly ranked by U.S. News & World Report, most notably Purdue's Speech-Language Pathology. However, unlike most other colleges at Purdue University, there is no overall ranking system for the College of Health and Human Sciences. The 2019 rankings for the College's graduate programs are listed below:[9]
Graduate Program | Ranking |
---|---|
Audiology | 13 |
Clinical Psychology | 47 |
Nursing (Doctor of Nursing Practice) | 79 |
Nursing (Masters) | 77 |
Psychology | 39 |
Sociology | 57 |
Speech-Language Pathology | 5 |

I have had no issues with the school. I have contacted the financial aid office and have had all my questions answered. I regularly contact my financial aid advisor to make sure things are going ok and I am not missing anything I need to be doing. I have had two advisors and both have been very helpful and pleasant to talk with. The work at the school is demanding. It is like any college. You get out of it what you put into it. All the classes have rules to follow pertaining to grading which need to be taken seriously. I find the courses intellectually stimulating as well as challenging. The instructors make it very clear at the beginning of the term what they expect of each student. This and reading all the criteria is essential for an online school platform as most of the student's work is self-driven during the week between seminars. There are weekly seminars with the entire class but most of the homework is done by taking extreme care in reading what is expected in each assignment. I would recommend this school to others.

I have attended Kaplan for almost two years and Purdue University Global for over a year and i am going to be blunt because the comments below are misleading. First off there are 10 week courses and there is alot of information that gets packed into each week, so yes you will do modules and write a 1000 word APA paper if not longer each week. Yes there is heavy reading as well what you would expect going to college. Yes this college is part of Purdue University, do your research. If you can not manage your time correctly you will fail. The templates you will use have directions the need to be deleted because it will increase the turn it in check for plagiarism. First off the professor tells the students to delete the directions and second write more in the template, 80/20 rule. The professors read the assignments sent in, all of them. Some professors are more strict than others and will dock you points for grammar. It is a very good college and i do recommend attending this school nust be prepared to do a lot of reading and writing. Lastly, i have no issues with the financial support. Of there is an issue they call me and the issue gets resolves right away.

Graduation Year:2013
Been going on 6 years without medical career. They maxed out student loans to highest amounts. Most importantly, the field I studied for usually requires a nursing degree etc. They could have told me all this and saved me from alot of debt/ diff career choice. For profit not students education! Biggest mistake attending here! Save your money! Otherwise, be in major debt for a long time for a diploma that alot of business don't consider as education. I get laughed at.

Graduation Year:2018
I felt the need to write this after seeing all of these negative comments. I have never had a problem with Purdue University Global and I am a military veteran. I started with Purdue immediately after exiting the Army in 2016. I earned my associates degree in May 2018 and starting May 2019 have restarted working towards my bachelors degree. Their financial aid office has been great, they've always handled everything and left me with only a few signatures to sign. Beyond that they are a yellow ribbon program school, which means if your tuition costs more than the GI Bill, they will cut the difference so nothing comes out of your pocket. Not a ton of schools do this, and for a school with the reputation of Purdue behind it doing that, it's definitely worth it in the end. The only down side I could say, and it was specifically in review to when it was still Kaplan University, was some of the IT courses were very basic. Almost too simple for anyone who has worked in IT before. But I also understand that they are designed for the beginner, not someone that is more advanced like myself.

Graduation Year:2019
The degree program was good even though I wanted a bachelors degree. I have some Learning disabilities and they didnt except any of the paperwork I had so they dont care about anything but the money and I had that experience before with a college so dont pick this school. Some of the people in the registration office are very rude and and have attitudes so Im going to find another school that is way better even if I only get an associates instead then get a job and continue to a bachelors degree.

So Fair warning for active duty Military, avoid this school at all cost. They don't work well with active duty especially if your deploying. There policy once a grade is given it stands. Your teacher will not read your material but, use an application for checking for Plagerism. If it scores to high they will give you a zero and that grade will not change. Mind you the application they use to check plagerism can't differentiate from lets say a template they send you to fill out a lab or a template or for a brochure that they give you. So if you use that template your plagerism score will already be high up in the 30-40% range. They have no desire to help fix the issue but, will just give you a zero and then you have to go through a appealing process that can take up to 3 weeks. My teacher ignored me for about a week before addressing it and said the policy about once a grade is submitted it can't be changed. Unprofessional is the name of PURDUE GLOBAL, there teachers could care less about helping you and there financial aid process is even worst, just becareful they'll try to get as much money out of you as possible by pulling loans out for you without your permission. You actually have to file a waiver to stop them from doing it automatically. It's not worth the headache or the hassle. If deployed it's even worse, turn in things early or try to correct them, it's a waste of your time and energy. There is no common courtesy or professionalism to help you fix the problem or if you do something incorrectly, just a zero that will not be changed. Again I can't stress it enough DO NOT ENROLL HERE. ACTIVE DUTY these folks could care less of your service or if your deployed in combat. Theres a reason that Kaplan changed to Purdue and the only thing that changed was the name. Do not give them your money.

While I currently attend this school, I'm upset at how the financial aid office is ran. I had a disbursement from the VA to the school 4/16/2019. The previous semester, I was told that it takes up to 21 days for non tuition disbursements to be sent out to students. Now, it has been 5 weeks today, and no change to my account. I am beyond done with this all. I have called and emailed them, and every time I contact them, I get told something else. A week and a half ago, a request was put in, and it was suppose to take up to 7 business days, but its been 9 business days. Im amazed at how fast they can take your money, but Ive been waiting over a month to get my VA funds. On this note, I would NEVER recommend this institution to anyone. I attended Purdue University Calumet, so that was the only reason I tried this out.

DO NOT CHOOSE PURDUE GLOBAL! THEY ABUSE THE STUDENT LOAN SYSTEM AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE STUDENT IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. Purdue Global charges almost $8000.00 per term. That price is outrageous and frankly they are robbing their students. They also mislead you into what ever programs only they offer. I am currently in legal dispute with them to take me out of collections. I tried to drop out of my term because I discovered that I did not need my masters which is what they asserted that I indeed did need to become a Family Counselor. This isn't true, but they told me it was so that I would continue in their program. When I discovered that I could become a family counselor with out my Masters in Psychology I contacted my assigned counselor (Jerome Brunson) well before the drop date, but Jerome Brunson refused to call me back or answer any of my emails until after the drop dead line. Now they turned me in to collections (permanently damaging my credit) for $3500.00 (1/2 of my full tuition) and kept my $700.00 financial aid. They are sketchy, over priced and absolutely abuse the student seeking a degree. DO NOT CHOOSE this school. They are complete thieves of our college loan system and take advantage of anyone who is seeking a degree.

Like the person below, the excel track gating was pretty much the last straw for me. I have already begun the process of transferring to another university following the current term. I started looking at other schools after my tenth paper, in two terms, on globalization, collaboration, and cultural diversity. I realize they are important topics but forcing them into the curriculum really does not seem to be beneficial in any way. Those that have ever had to write a 2 page paper on the importance of globalization and cultural diversity in the design of a database will understand. I was also growing tired of completing the reading and learning activities for a module only to have to go and write a 1,000 word paper on a completely different subject matter to finish it. The changes in the excel track program just prove what past reviews have said, its all about making money for this school.

Beware the ExcelTrack programs as they have just become a scam. The ability to work at your own pace has just been taken away via module gating. This has been done under the guise of enhancing the learning experience through forcing you to take all 180 credits in sequence. You can no longer take more than one course at a time and are essentially held hostage by your instructors ability to grade your assignments in a timely manner. In what universe does a computer networking class build upon a composition class... Are you sure it has nothing to do with the fact that some of us were able to complete so many modules a term that it brought our tuition down to $100 a credit? I'm transferring to a more reputable school...
